From Idea To Approval

For our September presentation, Shaik Obydullah shared with us his journey in getting his Theme & Plugin ideas From Idea to Approval, and published to the WordPress Directory.

Shaik is a relative newcomer to the BWP family, and this was his first-ever presentation — and not just at a BWP meetup! As a long-time PHP developer, Shaik picked the flexibility and power of the WordPress platform as the best way for him to develop contributions to the open-source community.

The Path Well Travelled

Shaik shared how embracing the power of modern technologies, like AI, doesn’t always make the journey easier — especially when it comes to getting your WordPress Theme or Plugin published.

The best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance that help to keep the WordPress community safe from rogue extensibility don’t always play well with AI’s view on modern development. However, by leveraging expertise, as well as a little trial and error, Shaik showed us how he created a well-trodden path from his experiences — and how you can do something similar.

As Summer comes to a close, September can often be a quiet month on the Meetup front, and certainly there were fewer numbers this time around. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, there was a lot of lively Q&A conversation — as well as, of course, the fine collection of buffet-style fare 😎

Recorded for Posterity?

As we always say, having your presentation recorded isn’t mandatory. Or, to be more precise, in this case, having your recorded presentation published isn’t 😁

As a first-time presenter and someone keen to build up their presentation portfolio, Shaik wanted his presentation recorded, and we were only too happy to oblige. But he wasn’t quite ready for the ensuing “fame and fortune,” and that’s fine with us too.

Of course, that means if you weren’t there, you won’t get to hear his pearls of wisdom! It’s one of the reasons we encourage folks to come along in person…not just for the food! Not everyone wants to be a star “shining in their own spotlight”, but everyone is always happy to share what they know.

Until next time 😎
