Following a “format departure” for our June Meetup, our July presentation was delivered by none other than Simon Pollard. Simon is a well-known face in the WordPress community, particularly around the Bristol area.
This month, Simon (who currently works at soto) took us on a journey of “blocks-within-blocks-within-blocks…” โ or, as he put it: Blockception

What’s in a Block
In the world of the WordPress Gutenberg editor, a Block is a foundational, modular component used to build and arrange content.

Simon explained how Blocks can fit together to form even richer Blocks, and how folks familiar with the ACF (Advanced Custom Fields) Plugin could use it, instead of needing to learn React.
Another great turnout, with the usual lively participation as part of the post-presentation Q&A conversation! This was another great example of why attending BWP events in-person isn’t just about the buffet! ๐

Recorded for Posterity
Our July presentation was another one recorded for those unable to attend, and Simon tells us he’s already had several folks over to his own personal viewing party ๐
It’s not a mandatory part of giving a talk. However, if you’re a first-time speaker, it will help you get your name out there. So, sign up to give a talk, and you too can be your own star of the “small screen”! See you next time ๐
